The Latent Heat Calculator is a simple web tool that calculates latent heat in a matter of seconds. To have the latent heat explained step by step, simply enter the mass of the object as well as the specific heat of the object.

Specific latent heat:

Latent Heat Formula

The amount of heat or energy absorbed or released during a phase change of a substance is known as latent heat. It can be from a liquid to a gas, or from a solid to a liquid and back. However, one key point to remember about Latent Heat is that the temperature does not change.

A formula can come in handy when calculating latent heat and makes your task much easier. Q = m * L is the formula for latent heat.

  • Here, m be the mass of the body is measured in kilogrammes(kg).
  • L stands for Latent Specific Heat and is measured in kJ/kg.
  • Q is the amount of heat that is absorbed or released depending on the direction of transition, and it is measured in kJ.

How to determine Latent Heat?

To determine the latent heat, follow the simple steps outlined below. As so, they are.

  • Initially, determine the mass of a substance.
  • Next, estimate the specific latent heat
  • In the formula for Latent Heat, Q = m * L, substitute the input parameters.
  • Simplify the equation further enough to simply calculate the latent heat.

Latent Heat Energy Examples

Question 1: If the amount of heat required for transition is 350Kcal, calculate the latent heat of a 7 kg substance.

Consider the problem, we have

Mass of the substance,m = 7kg

Heat required for Transition, Q = 350Kcal

We know that,Q = m*L is the formula for Latent Heat.

The equation L = Q/m is obtained by substituting the previous equation for the Latent Heat.

L = 350/7

L= 50KCal/kg

As a result, 50 Kcal/Kg of latent heat is required for transition.

FAQs on Latent Heat Calculator

1. What does it mean to have latent heat?

The total energy required to change the Physical State (Phase) of a substance without affecting its temperature is known as latent heat.

2. What kinds of Latent Heat are there?

There are three forms of latent heat: Latent Heat of Fusion, Latent Heat of Vaporization, and Latent Heat of Sublimation.

3. What is the formula for latent heat?

Magnification refers the measure of how much the image of an object is magnified by a telescope. Linear magnification and angular magnification are the two types of magnification. Both are used to measure the magnification of optical instruments and are designated by the letter M.

4. What are the Latent Heat Units?

The units of latent heat are either joules or calories per mole.
