What is Force?

The force is described in physics as the interaction between two or more objects that push or pull the object in a specific direction. When two or more objects interact, the force should be applied to each of them. The symbol F is used to denote force, and the unit of force is Newton.

Strong nuclear force, weak nuclear force, electromagnetic force, and gravitational force are the different types of force. To compute the force, use the following formula:

Force = Mass × Acceleration i.e. F = m x a

  • Where, F = Force acting on a body
  • m = Mass or weight of the object
  • a = Acceleration of the object

Types of Forces

In physics, three of Newton's laws of motion apply to all forces.

  • Gravitational Force:The attraction between any two objects of nonzero mass is known as gravitational force. Because of this force - gravity - you walk on the ground rather than float. Everything around you, including the screen you're viewing this on, exerts it. It's just so little that it goes unnoticed.
  • Normal Force: The reaction to gravitational force is the normal force, which is a great example of Newton's third law. You exert a force (equivalent to gravitational force) on the floor when you stand. A force of the same magnitude is exerted on you by the floor.
  • Frictional Force: Friction is an opposing force to motion. It's proportional to the normal force acting on an object as it interacts with the ground. Sand is used on icy surfaces in the winter to create friction and avoid slipping.
  • Tension: When there is external pulling, tension is an axial force that travels through ropes, chains, springs, and other items. When you're walking your dog and it pulls you forward, strain is created on the leash.
  • Centrifugal Force: A rotating object is subjected to centrifugal force. Have you ever enjoyed a ride on a carousel? Do you recall how it felt to be pushed outwards? That sensation was created by centrifugal force.
  • Pressure: The force imparted to a surface is measured as pressure. When you inflate a balloon, air particles within put pressure on it. Because all particles are subjected to the same stress, the balloon inflates uniformly.

How to Calculate Force?

To calculate the force, follow the steps below. By following the above-mentioned recommendations, you will be able to arrive at a simple answer.

  • Consider the mass and acceleration of an object travelling in a single direction.
  • Multiply the two variables together.
  • The result of a multiplication operation is known as the force operating on that particular body.

How to Use the Force Calculator?

The following is the procedure how to utilize the acceleration due to gravity calculator

  • Put the unknown's mass, acceleration, and x in the appropriate input fields.
  • To acquire the result, click the "Calculate the Unknown" button.
  • Finally, in the output field, the force will be displayed.

Real Life Examples of Force

  • Squeezing a tube of toothpaste.
  • The vehicle is rubbed with a rubbing brake.
  • The act of opening or closing a door.
  • Kicking a soccer ball.
  • Pushing a wheelbarrow.

Examples on finding Force

Question 1: What force is needed to accelerate a 30 kg object from rest to 6 m/s^2?

Solution:

Given: m = 30 kg

a = 6 m/s^2

F = m x a = 30 x 6 = 180 N

Question 2: Jerry pushes a 4.5 kg box with 2.0 N of force. What is the resultant acceleration?

Solution:

Given m = 4.5 kg

F = 2.0 N

a = ?

F = m x a

Rrearranging this we have a = F/m = 2/4.5 = 0.44 m/s^2

FAQs on Force Calculator

1. Is acceleration considered a force?

Acceleration isn't the same as force. Acceleration, like force, is a vector with both magnitude and direction. Acceleration is proportional to force, according to Newton's second law of motion: F = m a.

2. Is it possible for the net force to be negative?

The net force can be both positive and negative. The magnitude of forces is always positive. However, to make net force calculations easier, we suppose that forces aimed in opposite directions have distinct signs. We commonly refer to forces aiming to the right as positive and forces aiming to the left as negative. So, if two forces acting on an object are opposing in direction and the net force is pointing to the left, the net force is said to be negative.

3. What is a force in physics for kids?

A push or pull on an object is referred to as force. An item can accelerate, slow down, stay in position, or change shape as a result of a force.

4. What do I know about the concept of force?

A force is a push or pull on an object that occurs as a result of the object's contact with another object. Every time two objects interact, a force is exerted on each of them. The two objects no longer feel the force after the interaction ends.

5. How do you find work without force?

If you press on something and it doesn't move, you haven't done any work. There is no labour done if the kinetic energy of an object does not change. Work Calculation Equation: Mass x Gravity x Height.
